NEA Foundation Announces Grants for Technology Teaching :
Former Director Corene Griffin Gives $181K to Education
Washington, DC -- The NEA Foundation's Board Chair, Lauri Fitz-Pegado, Partner of The Livingston Group, announced the receipt of a bequest to the Foundation from the estate of Corene Griffin, of Malibu, CA. The gift will total over $181,000.

NEA Foundation Awards $1.34M to Close the Achievement Gaps : Pilots Show Improvements in Teaching and Learning that Support Continued Investment. The NEA Foundation today announced that it will award $1,341,000 to three of its Closing the Achievement Gaps Initiative pilot sites, continuing its work to advance systemic efforts to increase academic achievement, especially for low income and minority students. The initiative sets five-year goals for each of the pilot sites and is building a body of knowledge about teaching and learning that will be shared with the reform and philanthropic sectors in the years ahead. NEA Foundation Launches Online Grants Application: In a move it says will make applying for grants easier, more convenient, and less prone to user error, the NEA Foundation today announced that it is launching a web-based application process for its popular $2,000 and $5,000 grants to support public school educators' ideas to improve teaching and learning. NEA Foundation Names Five Finalists for National Award: Five public school educators will receive $10,000 from the Horace Mann Companies and national recognition at a Washington, DC awards gala as the 2009 national finalists for the NEA Foundation’s Award for Teaching Excellence, according to the NEA Foundation, a public charity created in 1969 to advance student achievement in America’s public schools. Eight Connecticut Schools Selected for Reform; Attract National Funding: Six organizations have agreed to collaborate on a school reform effort unlike any other in the country that will involve eight of Connecticut’s most challenged schools. This unique collaboration will be funded, in part, by a $250,000 award from The NEA Foundation and a $480,000 appropriation from the Connecticut General Assembly.

The NEA Foundation Names New Chair, Two Board Members: The NEA Foundation today announced the election of a new chair, Lauri J. Fitz-Pegado, a partner at The Livingston Group, LLC and the former Assistant Secretary at the Department of Commerce in the Clinton Administration, and the appointment of two new members: Lori McFarling, Divisional Marketing Officer for Discovery Education & Domestic Distribution at Discovery Communications, and Kirk Michel, President and Founder of KEMA Advisors, Inc., an investment-banking firm that provides expertise in a wide range of financial disciplines.

The NEA Foundation Lists 38 New Grantees: The NEA Foundation today released the names of public educators selected to receive 38 grants, totaling $154,000, to fund work to improve public education for students nationwide. The NEA Foundation Appoints Ambassador to Board: The NEA Foundation today announced the appointment of Ambassador Pete Romero to its Board of Directors. Ambassador Romero is the CEO of Experior Advisory, teaches at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and served 24 years as a career diplomat in the U.S. State Department.
